Review: In zebra shoes at reading time
Everyone who knows me knows that I am an impatient person. It must be quick. I prefer to do several things at the same time. And it makes me feel better if I still finish before delivery. The inner impeller is very distinctive! I enjoy short me-time slots all the more like last week at the LeseZeit bookstore in the Brunnencenter in Bad Vilbel. That was a special highlight for me, as my son wasn't in daycare all week and my husband and I tried to work alternately in the home office while our 3-year-old was constantly whining “No one is playing with me! “BTW: How do other parents do that without alternative care options, relatives or grandparents? In between, we therefore always had several episodes of Peppa Pig or an audio drama. Thanks to new media! Of course, you're welcome to have a good book again afterwards 😊.
Reading time equals time off
Last Wednesday, in keeping with International Women's Day, the reading of our loyal pages took place2-Customer Jasmin Meranius in the Reading time in the fountain center in Bad Vilbel-Dortelweil. In retrospect, I was happy that I worked myself up, because: Reading time was my Time off last week. An evening that was just mine. An evening where I could just sit and listen — for 90 minutes. LeseZeit will be 10 years old in May this year. It is reminiscent of grandma's cozy living room: old pictures on the patterned walls, imitation fireplace, a kitchen cabinet full of books, armchairs from the 1950s.
The story in brief
Although I know the pages of the new book “In Zebra Shoes,” I always have to smile, sometimes start laughing, because I can simply identify too well with the protagonist. It reminds me a bit of my first time at the Munich-based communications agency over 15 years ago. Susanna alias Anna gives up her permanent job for an internship as a copywriter at a trendy Frankfurt advertising agency in order to win back her ex-boyfriend, who left her unexpectedly. She meets two other interesting men: one employee of the agency in his late 20s like herself, the other Pet Schmitthammer, “GF” of the middle-aged agency. But who will she choose in the end?
That is where the spice lies
“Pet laughs at 'Susanna Sonnenburg aus Sommerkahl' a really charming alliteration [...] I mean, seriously: charming? Me? Johannes hasn't said anything so nice to me for a long time.” Susanna wants to reinvent herself, be funny and quick-witted and always pushes her limits. Because no matter how hard she tries to be someone else, she remains herself in the end. Likeable, empathetic — and a bit clumsy. Just authentic. “... Pet holds out his hand to me. Oh damn, that guy looks good! ... I'm still looking at Pet Schmitthammer's hand. Then on my gloved fingers and realized that I forgot to take off the cotton gloves. I'm sure Pet thinks I'm wearing them because I'm having problems. But he is clearly wrong about that. The others have problems with my gloves.” Jasmin reads out some humorous passages that make the chic-lit genre transparent. Because this includes her new novel, which was supposed to be a classic romance novel. Inspired by her everyday working life as career coach Susanna created it. Is there a sequel? She doesn't want to reveal that yet. But it seems to have arrived in its genre. The author even brings zebra shoes to her reading. She is also giving away two zebra-shoe-branded bottles of Chardonnay among readers. Very creative!
The conclusion
I would like to thank Jasmin and LeseZeit for this wonderful evening on Women's Day, which gave me a short break from everyday chaos. In any case, I'm really excited about the end of the book and will read on in every free minute. After all, I need to know who Susanna chooses in the end. Jasmin did not reveal that. In any case, I am very happy if we can do the PR for the book as soon as it is in its 2nd edition. The 1st edition is already sold out. 😊 And I'm looking forward to the next visit during the reading period, when I felt very comfortable. I will certainly stop by here again privately.
